An Experience for life!

The Student Training Empowerment Program, A.K.A. STEP, is proud to offer a series of workshops for young people in grades 1 through 5 at the Chrysalis Conservation Courtyard beginning on Monday, October 20, 2008 from 3:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.  The workshops will be led by Ms. Laura  Gottardo, teacher of the year at Hilton Head High School, along with the assistance of high school STEP members.

The workshops are designed to give young children hands-on experiences as they learn how people can improve or damage the environment, and how their choices can affect the future quality of their lives.

Young people are going to inherit a huge of array of environmental challenges, as well as face many opportunities to make choices about their future.  So it is vital that they are equipped with the knowledge they need to make the right choices for themselves and the wisdom to look after the planet.

STEP workshops offer an experience which is both educational and fun.  Positive high school role models are genuinely enthusiastic about sharing life skills information to help younger children make good choices to be all that they can be and to become responsible stewards of our planet.  Learning from successful high school students creates a unique experience which can have real and deep-rooted impact on attitudes, interest and awareness. STEP workshops are safe and secure and are held in an ideal location at the Chrysalis Conservation Courtyard.  Students are escorted from Hilton Head Elementary School by an adult to the Chrysalis Conservation Courtyard at Hilton Head Island High school.

STEP has been providing life skills training for more than 20 years, and its staff has a great deal of experience running highly successful and effective programs for young people.  The first workshop entitled HEALTHY WATER, HEALTHY PEOPLE is not only challenging, exciting and fun, but an amazing journey of self discovery.

If you are interested in giving your child an experience that will enrich their lives for years to come and make memories that they will always cherish, then please fill out the workshop application form, enclose the $15 fee and mail it to the address on the form.

Please note that workshop size is limited and a place cannot be reserved until both the application form and fee are received. If you have any further questions please email kathleen@gostep.org.

I am very interested in learning more about STEP. I am founder and market manager for the Bluffton Farmers Market and one of our goals is to build a bridge between the market and the schools, providing children with the opportunity to talk directly from area growers, to develop their own school gardens, and to learn about food sources. I have just learned about STEP through an ad in the Island Packet about the Environmental Discovery Workshop (in which I am enrolling my grandchildren ). Would love to talk abou the market–STEP connection with a representative. Thank you. Diane Fornari
